With its rich history, Yemeni cuisine is varied across the nation and includes a wide variety of dishes. Some most well-known among them are Mandy, Haneeth, Fahsah, and Agdah just to name a few. Aqdah (عقدة), meaning “knot” in Arabic, is a stew made by mixing numerous ingredients together. There are many types of Agdah, made with lamb, chicken, or fish cooked together with various vegetables – a fan favorite!
3000 years of Tradition
With its long sea border between eastern and western civilizations, Yemen has long existed at a crossroads of cultures. With a strategic location in the southern portion of the Arabian Peninsula, it was home to several ancient kingdoms. Among them are the famed kingdoms of Sheba, Hadramout and Qataban. With the lapse of time, Yemen came into contact with a number of neighboring nations adding its already rich history.
